Kites – in prison, defined as messages – are forms of communication passed between the incarcerated and often remain behind prison walls. Kites Above the Razor Wire presents paintings, drawings, poetry, prose and messages spanning a decade to the outside world, beyond the razor wire, from prisons across Michigan. The exhibition is presented by Hamtramck Free School and incarcerated artists and poets throughout Michigan, and surveys art and writing organizations from around the state who, animated by creativity, support personal and political transformations inside Michigan prisons.
