What is Kombeat?
KOMBEAT is a grassroots education program in music production. Secondarily, Kombeat is an analog and electronic DJ equipment retailer and manufacturer.
What are your programs?
Kombeat:
- Ofers educational classes to youth, professionals, and elders
- Fabricates and designs its own music and DJ equipment
- Supplies quality used and new DJ and production gear to Metro-DetroitWhat is the history of KOMBEAT?KOMBEAT is an Anglicization of the Haitian-Creole word Kombit, meaning collective action through cooperative labor. Tis word originated as a way for farmers and communities to help one another, and has since manifested itself in economic kombit, cultural kombit, etc.What are some of your Goals?Hamtramck youth will experience hands-on music training at sound labs from neighborhood artists on top-of-the-line equipment. Youth will also learn how to solder, saw, drill, screen, hammer, sew, and construct many products used in the music industry.Community goals include ofering a safe, alcohol-free and drug-free zone where youth, artists, and elders can spend time outside of school. Residents will beneft from having music and art that sounds like the melting pot Hamtramck truly is.
